United Nations Security Council is today Tuesday expected to adopt a resolution to renew sanctions on South Sudan.

In a note CRN saw, the renewal of sanctions is due to the slow implementation of the peace agreement signed in August last year.

The sanctions include assets freezing and travel bans on designated individuals for one year.

The Council is also expected to renew the mandate of the Panel of Experts for 13 months.

The renewal was delayed due to the return of Dr Riek Machar to Juba and the formation of the transitional government of national unity in April.

The Council is also concerned about the ongoing threats in South Sudan to humanitarian organizations, workers and non-cooperation.
