Sister Veronica Rackova of the congregation of Sisters Servants of the Holy Spirit has died from her wounds in Harvester Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya this afternoon.
Bishop Erkolano Lodu Tombe announces at Christ the King Cathedral on Friday afternoon, Radio Easter reports.
He says Christians should take the whole situation in faith and hope.
Bishop Lodu says Sister Veronica has said earlier that she would die from her wounds.
Sister Veronica Rackova, Director of St Bakhita Health Center was shot on her hip by SPLA night patrol in Yei Municipality at around 1:00 AM on Monday.
Yei Catholic Diocese Secretary-General Fr Emmanuel Sebit Lodongo said the ambulance that the sister was driving, was shot for several times.
Provincial Regional Superior, Sister Maria Jerly said the current incident tormented the members of the congregation working in the South Sudan.
She said they planned not to leave the country out of what she described as “unfortunate incident”.
“It is our hope to continue to serve the needy people of this Africa’s great nation despite this unfortunate incident”, Sister Jerly told journalists when the late Sister Veronica was in coma.
