Community Empowerment for Rehabilitation and Development launched a two-year project aiming at empowering children and young people on their rights.

The initiative targets 200 street and home based children and young people in Yei Municipality and County.

The organization communication specialist, Augustine Atinga, tells Radio Easter that the project will strengthen formal and informal protection structures.

He adds that it will also improve monitoring and reporting of child rights violations.

Atinga says the project will extend its services to rural Payams like Lasu, Mugwo, Tore and Pakula and Yei town blocks.

He says more awareness is needed to end abuses against the rights of children in the community.

Juma Dennis, Child Protection Officer in Yei Department of Gender and Social Welfare, calls for proper implementation of the project to meet its goals.

Dennis appeals to all stakeholders in the government and partners to collectively work to end child right abuses.

Community Empowerment for Rehabilitation and Development and Network of Education for Sustainable Services are implementing the project with funds from ERIKS development.
