Hundreds of youth from across the eight counties of Eastern Equatoria state yesterday staged a peaceful demonstration in Torit town in effort to raise public awareness on the forthcoming referendum.

The peaceful demonstration under the theme “Separation is our ultimate goal” started with a marching from the old military barrack on Torit-Juba road, ending at Freedom Square in Torit town.

Chairman of South Sudan Forum for Referendum at GOSS level, Benjamin Bol Mel said the demonstration is a reminder to the entire people of south Sudan that the liberation struggle that started in Torit is still alive.

He stated that the last leg of the liberation struggle is the total independence of South Sudan after 9th January 2011 referendum.

Mr. Bol stressed that the struggle through the barrel of the gun is over but the people of South Sudan are left with “making a choice through a democratic process.

Mr. Bol, the North has dishonored the CPA and failed to meet the expectations of the youth in the south, particularly in providing equal job opportunities.

The Referendum march in Torit today is the second of its kind following an earlier event by youth in the State that was held on 9th August, this year.

According to South Sudan Forum for Referendum chairman in charge of Eastern Equatoria state, Mr. Lopidio Daniel, the demonstration in support of the total independence of South Sudan will be held on the 9th of every month till December.
