Kajo-Keji County Legislative Council is operating without a woman representative, women activist raises an alarm.
35 male councillors who were elected since 2014 conduct council sittings without ‘women voice ‘for the last two years, Radio Easter reports.
Activist Poni Sylvia says the existence of the legislative council without women representation undermines the 25 percent affirmative action in the national constitution.
But, Wolyan Patrick, Kajo-Keji County Legislative Council Speaker says it is not the council’s making to find itself 100 percent male.
He explains that the 35 men in the county parliament were democratically elected from various Bomas and that women might have ignored the role of the legislative council.
Patrick admits that it is a challenge to legislate on women related affairs.
Activist Poni Sylvia, the chairperson Kajo-Keji Women Association blames the council election process which does not consider 25 percent women affirmative action.
Women in Kajo-Keji are undermined, she regrets.
No woman is holding any key position in the County Government settings, Sylvia decries.
Matata Khamis, the Executive Director for Centre for Democracy Initiative-South Sudan appeals to the county, state and national governments to improve on women representation.
The concern was raised during five-day training of Kajo-Keji County Legislative Councillors.
