1,370 SPLM/A ‚ÄìIn-Opposition troops and police have been transported from Malakal to Juba as required in the first stage of Transitional Security Arrangements’ plan, says the Deputy Head of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission, JMEC.

The security arrangement plan for Juba was stepped up in February this year to pave way for the formation of Transitional Government of National Unity.

Fran√ßois Fall says the transportation of the opposition troops was carried out through a combination of United Nations’ and chartered aircrafts.

He hails the United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS for its efforts to support the air and ground movement of the opposition forces.

UNMISS also provided engineering assistance in Juba, says Fall.

JMEC appreciates the financial and kind contributions of China, Ethiopia, Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States for the transportation of opposition forces to Juba to quickly implement the peace agreement.
