Mobile Telecommunication Network, MTN South Sudan announces Tuesday that it will terminate 55 percent of South Sudanese employees due to biting economic crisis.

75 percent of international employees of MTN will also lose their jobs soon, says a company official, Radio Bakhita reports.

The decision was taken due to high costs of business and reduction in company sales in all over South Sudan, says Khumbulani Dhlomo, the MTN Head of Corporate Services.

Dhlomo reveals that the company will stop expansion plans until business environment improves in the country.

The official warns that should the economic crisis continue, MTN may be forced to close down operations in South Sudan.

Companies cannot operate without any gain, Dhlomo says.

The official says MTN has employed over 170 local and international permanent staff countrywide.
