Tuberculosis cases increase in Bentiu UNMISS Camp, IOM reports

145 Internally Displaced Persons or IDPs in Bentiu Protection of Civilians’ site who tested for tuberculosis or TB, 16 percent were positive, says the International Organization for Migration, IOM.
 
The figure is worrying hinting a high prevalence of TB among the IDP community, the agency says.
 
IOM is raising awareness of TB treatment for the IDPs all the country.
 
The disease remains a major public health concern in the country especially in crowded environment like IDP camps which have higher risk of transmission.
 
Community members should visit health care providers to get cured from TB, IOM Health Programme Manager Kelsi Kriitmaa urges.
 
In 2015, TB and HIV and AIDS were the second leading causes of death in IDP sites, the official reveals.
 
The Government of Japan and the Common Humanitarian Fund are aiding TB treatment in Bentiu.
