The European Union or EU will continue to eliminate all forms of discriminations in the world so that all may enjoy human rights and fundamental freedoms, says High EU Representative in South Sudan.
Federica Mogherini says many positive steps have been made around the world in eliminating racial discrimination, but there are still critical barriers and challenges.
The official made the remarks marking the International Day for the Elimination Of Racial Discrimination on Monday.
The EU Chief cites global economic crisis, migration, terrorism, poverty and rising inequalities as some critical barriers in eliminating racial discrimination.
The challenges affect those who are already subject to discrimination on the grounds of their colour, race and ethnic or national origin, says Mogherini.
The EU also stands firm in addressing and combating hate speech, Mogherini says.
The EU Chief stresses that all human beings are equal in dignity with entitlement to enjoy rights as enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
In South Sudan’s two-year conflict, there have been reports of ethnic targeted killings that left over 50 thousand people dead.
