A bishop of the Episcopal Church in South Sudan is appealing for declaration of famine in the country to enable humanitarian agencies to rescue people affected by severe food insecurity.
Bishop Enock Tombe says the church should take an alternative since political leaders continue to deny existence of famine in the country, Radio Bakhita reports.
Bishop Tombe urges the public to talk to the political leaders wherever they meet to ensure peace returns to the country for development to take place.
UN agencies have repeatedly warned that South Sudan is facing high levels of food insecurity with 2.8 million people remaining in urgent need of food assistance.
But, the government insists that there is no famine in the country.
