Community Empowerment for Democracy and Development launches ‘citizens engage in governance’ project.
Dara Felix, the Program Officer says the two-year project aims at addressing women and youth exclusion in governance processes, Radio Easter reports.
The official adds that the project will give platforms to consolidate political tolerance, inclusion and participation at all levels of decision-making and peace building processes.
There is underrepresentation of women and youth in the Council of States, National Legislative Assembly, Independent Commissions and Embassies, Dara says.
The project increases civic engagement in dissemination of the Peace Agreement and mobilizes citizens to participate fully in its implementation, the official says.
The project does advocacy on laws and policies that hinder political and socio-economic progress to strengthen capacity of local duty bearers.
The program will be funded by the Open Society Initiative for Eastern African.
