United Nations Mission in South Sudan is training officials in the young country on Universal Periodic Review of the human rights.

The training aims to improve the human rights situation and come up with recommendations on abuses of rights in the country, Radio Bakhita reports.

The training is important because some elements are violating human rights in the country, says Filbert Mareng Mayout, Acting Undersecretary in the Ministry of Justice

UNMISS Human Rights Officer Theodore Rectenwald says the process will help South Sudan realize violation of human rights facing citizens.

The review comes when South Sudan went through crisis which slowed its ability to stop human right violations, says Jean Luc Stallion UNDP Deputy Country Director.

He says UNDP will work with the South Sudan in the UPR process.

The process is a significant innovation of Human Rights Council which involves periodic review of the human rights record of all 103 UN member states.
