470 kilometres of colonial boundaries ranging from Uganda, Kenya and Democratic Republic of Congo with South Sudan will be demarcated in 2017, says the head of the Joint Technical Committee for Border Delimitation and Demarcation.
Experts from Uganda, South Sudan and African Union will work together to mark borderlines with big signs, Jerome Gama Surur says.
The head of the Joint Technical Committee says committees from border communities will be formed to sensitize locals on the exercise to create harmony.
The Ugandan and South Sudanese committees met in Gulu District and had successful visits to border communities, Gama says.
He says the demarcation should not divide border communities from normal relations of cooperation and co-existence.
Gama says the technical committee observes simple issues on conflicting border areas that could have been easily handled with patience without loss of lives.
He urges border communities to avoid conflicts to allow free flow of goods and services.
