The first National Sports event under the theme: ‘Sports for peace and unity’ is starting today Saturday at Juba Football Stadium.

The opening ceremony will be coloured with cultural dance and music from Ourupaf, Emmanuel Kembe and other artists.

The first football match on Sunday will witness Juba football team facing Pibor at Buluk playground in Juba.

Torit will meet Wau at Zahara playground, and Yambio will knock horns with Malakal on the same Day in Juba.

The event is organized by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport supported by Japan International Cooperation Agency or JICA and United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization or UNESCO.

UNESCO believes sport is a universal language that can be a powerful tool to promote peace, tolerance and understanding, by bringing people together across boundaries, cultures and religions.

It says important elements of sports such as teamwork, fair play, discipline and respect can promote solidarity, unity, diversity and peaceful coexistence.
