The humanitarian situation in Unity State is extremely worrying, Humanitarian Coordinator for South Sudan reports.

Civilians have suffered tremendously and food insecurity and malnutrition are extremely high, Eugene Owusu says in a press release.

The civilians laments that they had survived for about seven months hiding in swampy areas and eating wild fruits.

They say homes were burned, people killed and livelihoods destroyed during the fighting.

The civilians also express concerns about their health and the lack of education for their children.

‘We don’t want to run anymore. We are happy that there is peace now,’ one of the victims grieves.

Humanitarian Coordinator Eugene Owusu visited Leer Town and Thonyor in southern Unity State this week, following resumption of aid operations in the area.

Mr Owusu expresses happiness over the silenced guns and the improved security situation to access the area.

He says it is absolutely critical to maintain current stability to deliver life-saving aid.
