The parties to the Peace Agreement on Resolution of Conflict in South Sudan will meet this week to select ministers for the new power-sharing government, says Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Commission or JEMC.
‘This is an important step toward establishing a transitional government’, says JMEC Deputy Chief of Staff Aly Verjee.
He discloses that on the same Wednesday there will be a meeting of the Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring Mechanism.
Verjee adds that JMEC will also assemble on January 12 after the meeting of the Joint Military Ceasefire Commission.
The official reiterated Festus Mogae’s commitment to visit other parts of South Sudan.
Mogae returns to Juba on Wednesday to participate in the meeting the same day.
The Peace Agreement says the government retains 16 ministries, the SPLM-IO will have ten ministries, Former Detainees two ministries and other political parties also take two ministries.
The deal explains that each party will nominate a minister on a rotational basis.
The government chooses the first ministry that it wants, followed by the SPLM-IO, the Former Detainees and the other political parties.
