Religious leaders in conjunction with the youth for separation and southern Sudan youth forum conducted prayers for the referendum and a successful independence of southern Sudan from the north.
The prayer took place today in Juba at the late Dr. John Garang De Mabiors’ mausoleum.

Talking to SCR news Bishop Paul Pitya Yugusuk Chairman of Sudanese Religious Leaders Referendum Initiative said the prayer was meant to ask the intercession of God in the coming referendum for self determination for the people of southern Sudan.

Bishop Yugusuk added that the prayer would help minimize all the issues surrounding the referendum like insecurity and tribal clashes.

Bishop Yugusuk affirmed that the Sudanese Religious leaders unanimously called on the people of southern Sudan to vote for secession during the referendum because unity had not been made attractive.

He said people at the grass root level need to be clearly directed to vote for secession.

A month ago the religious group declared their stand to help southerners vote for separation. Sudanese Religious leaders declared 20th of every month a prayer day for the referendum.

The Sudanese Religious leader’s initiative included Muslims, all Christian denominations and civil society organizations.
