Health officials met today for a health strategy consultative workshop, to build a pharmaceutical and drug supply chain system.

For five years, since the inception of the Government of South Sudan (GoSS), the region has had an ineffective pharmaceutical management, earning patients serious illness that at times leads to death.

Talking to SCR news, the acting undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Olivia Lomoru, said that effective pharmaceuticals and medical supply determine the success or failure of medical intervention by the government.
She added that the absence of the right drugs can paralyze the whole health system, and spell doom for individual patients.
Dr. Lomoru acknowledged that GoSS is committed to the accessibility, safety, availability and effectiveness of drugs in both the public and private sector.
She noted that states have complained about the absence of drugs, and the meeting will enable officials evaluate their system and verify the root-cause of the absence of the drugs.

The system to be built will strengthen the existing one. Implementation will kick off immediately, and USAID will provide technical personnel to help the local staff on how to operate the system effectively.
