Eastern Equatoria state praised the Catholic Diocese of Torit for its efforts to bring the people of the state together in peaceful co-existence.
Nartisio Manir Loluke, deputy governor of Eastern Equatoria state, said that the Catholic Diocese of Torit has brought together the former governor of the state, Emor Aloisio Ojetuk, and the current head of the state, Louis Lobong, to shake hands in front of the Christians as a symbol of unity.
Mr. Nartisio urged the church to extend reconciliation all over Southern Sudan as the country goes through challenges in view of the referendum.
Bishop Johnson Akio Mutek maintained in his speech that unity among communities in Southern Sudan is paramount for the success of the forthcoming referendum.
He urged the people of Eastern Equatoria state to forget their past differences and unite among themselves, to sustain the bravery of the forefathers who initiated the struggle of liberation of south Sudan.
