The Palica Office of the Catholic Archdiocese of Juba together with Solidarity with Southern Sudan held yesterday a meeting with Church personnel to plan on the activities the Archdiocese of Juba will engage on during the 101 days of peace and prayer campaign.
Fr. Nichola Kiri, Palica Director, said there is a number of initiatives the Catholic Church in Juba can spearhead to increase awareness on the power of prayer and the need for people to change their hearts in order to change the world.
Sister Cathy Arata, from Solidarity with Southern Sudan, said the current period is a historical moment in which Southern Sudanese are called to realize that God is leading its people and that each individual has a role to play as Sudan advances towards the Referendum.
Sister Cathy reaffirmed that this initiative is a response to the Sudanese Bishops’ call in Torit last December to Christians and people of good will to be vigilant in prayer during this decisive moment of the south Sudan.
She noted that the 101 day prayer campaign before the referendum will be an important time to teach people how to be peace-builders, reinforce the importance of peace in their communities, prepare for the referendum by praying for peace.
To assist in the campaign, posters, a booklet, prayer cards and other initiatives have been prepared.
Solidarity with Southern Sudan and Catholic Relief Services has teamed together with the Sudan Catholic Bishops Conference to launch this important campaign on September 21, 2010.
