Respect women and girls as mothers are responsible for the life of societies, says Eastern Equatoria State Deputy Governor.

Jerome Surur Gama called on citizens to appreciate women, Radio Emmanuel reports.

He made the call during the launch of the campaign against gender-based violence in Torit on Monday.

The deputy governor also encourages building the capacity of women to become change agents for the state and the nation.

Surur suggests sensitization of men on dangers of gender-based violence as the best way to reduce the practice.

UNMISS Coordinator in Eastern Equatoria Hiroko Hirahara notes that ending violence against women and girls is a top priority.

Christ Bright Academy pupils coloured the occasion with drama, poem and songs at Torit Freedom Square.
