The international emergency medical aid organization, MŽdecins Sans Frontires (MSF), has been forced to suspend all activities in Gumuruk, Jonglei State.

Dr. Gbane Mahama is the MSF Medical Coordinator for Southern Sudan. He told SCR news that the MSF staff in Gumuruk have faced three security issues in the month of July.
He explained that on July 1 an armed group entered the clinic and stole boxes of therapeutic ready-to-use food, needed to treat severely malnourished children.
He added that three days later therapeutic food was stolen again, in addition to medical equipment, and on July 27 four MSF staff members were violently robbed by armed men.

The authorities in Gumuruk were informed of MSF’s decision to suspend its activities there, since medical staff needs security to operate effectively.
Dr. Mahama affirmed that the MSF activities will resume if the security situation in Gumuruk is dealt with.
