A group of South Sudanese and international nongovernmental organizations petitioned African Union or AU Commission Chairperson to voice out establishment of the Hybrid Court and help ensure publication of the report of Inquiry on South Sudan without delay.
The group told Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma to make clear the Commission’s commitment to justice and South Sudanese victims of crimes under international law in a conflict that devastated millions of lives.
They stressed that publication of the report of the report remains of great importance and may also prove important to future investigators.
The group said the AU took a significant step in creating the commission and international and local partners continue to eagerly await publication of the report in order to consider its contents.
They also demanded establishment of a Truth, Reconciliation and Healing Commission and a Compensation and Reparations Authority.
The group said to realize lasting stability, national healing and opportunity for South Sudanese require that crimes committed are addressed to build a human rights-respecting state.
They added that swift and robust support from the AU and others is crucial for the hopes to become reality.
