The United States of America or USA announces more than 80 million Dollars in additional humanitarian assistance for conflict-affected people in South Sudan and refugees in the region.

In a statement the US Department of State says South Sudan Peace Agreement presents an opportunity to save lives from war and return the country to a productive path forward.

It adds that the additional contribution totaling to over 1.3 billion US aid to South Sudan caters for vulnerable populations including internally displaced persons, refugees seeking asylum in South Sudan and South Sudanese refugees in neighboring countries.

The US Department funding targets urgent needs and prevention of the spread of diseases through provision of emergency health services, safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and hygiene education.

The fund is also expected to provide services for survivors of gender-based violence and malnourished children among affected populations in South Sudan, refugees and host communities in neighboring countries.
