ENROLLED NUMBER OF STUDENTS SHOOTS UP, SAYS MINISTER

GoSS minister of Education said the number of students enrolled in basic primary education last year has increased compared to the previous years.

Michael Milly revealed during the weekly press briefing at the GoSS ministry of Information that over one million children registered in 2009 while only four hundred thousand enrolled in the previous years.

He affirmed that the number of teachers has also increased to more than twenty six thousand, compared to eighteen thousand of the previous years.
Mr. Milly disclosed that the education budget for this year is two hundred ninety one million Sudanese pounds, with 71% for teachers’ salaries and 15% for operational activities. The remaining 14% is for construction and for service delivery, mainly in form of books and printing.

He justified the budget allocation for the salaries of the teacher on the based that they are the central figure to provide quality education.
