Community Empowerment for Progress Organization or CEPO observes that the Peace Agreement signed by President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Opposition leader Dr Riek Machar Teny to end conflict is under serious threat.

CEPO in a statement expressed concerns that the warring parties violated the agreement despite subsequent declaration and orders to observe complete ceasefire throughout the country.

It states that it is now three days since ceasefire was declared yet the warring parties continue to intensify fighting across the country especially in the Upper Nile region.

CEPO terms 29-30 Augusts’ clashes between the two parties in Malakal North and Ugandan Foreign Minister’s remarks that People Defence Forces will not leave South Sudan as ‘serious threats to the implementation of the peace agreement’.

It adds that the recent military clashes after the deal demonstrates that the field commanders are not honoring President Kiir and Dr Machar directives on the permanent ceasefire.

CEPO calls on Ugandan government to demonstrate leadership as an IGAD country for realization of peace in South Sudan through effective and timely implementation of signed peace agreement.

It also calls upon IGAD Plus and the international community to pressure the parties and all allied foreign forces to respect the peace agreement and work together for its implementations for the common good of South Sudanese.
