Seventy-five delegates of Rumbek Central, East and North Counties on Sunday elected Rumbek Youth Union or RUMYU new chairperson in a democratic exercise many acknowledged as free and fair.
David Jima Noah from Rumbek East County won the election with 39 votes defeating Benjamin Marial Akech who got 36 ballots out of 75 in the contest, Radio Good News reported.
Governor’s Security Advisor Marial Amuom Malek who was the guest of honour in the elections advised the new leader to prioritize fighting anti-social behaviors such as bad dressing, drug abuse and violence among youths.
The newly elect chairman Jima Noah in his acceptance speech urged his competitor to cooperate with him in serving the Union.
Lakes State several leaders including Parliamentarians and SPLM party members urged young people to maintain RUMYU’s status of being a social Union uniting Agaar community rather than turning it into a political arena.
