Yei Mayor Santo Paul Lasuba on Thursday launched South Sudan coins at the Central Bank Yei branch.

The Mayor explains the importance of the coins in the economic development of the nation, Radio Easter reported.

Radio Easter witnessed government officials including Yei and Morobo Commissioners, a Member of Parliament and ordinary citizens exchanging notes for coins denominations of 10, 20 and 50 pilasters.

On the other hand, some citizens and traders who spoke to Radio Easter at the sideline of the launch are skeptical on the role of the coins in getting rid of high exchange rate and economic crisis.

They blame the undulating economic crisis and hard currency scarcity on the ongoing war, arguing that without peace the coins would not resolve the economic hardships.

The citizens and traders call on the warring parties to stop war and sign peace so that the renewed suffering cease.
