World Food Programme or WFP Executive Director lauded their frontline heroes and paid tribute to four colleagues who disappeared last year in South Sudan.
In a statement marking World Humanitarian Day on Wednesday, Ertharin Cousin said WFP searched relentlessly for news of their whereabouts, hoping for the best but fearing the worst.
The Director lamneted that ‘after many months, we must sadly conclude that they are no longer alive. Our thoughts are with their families. We will remember their dedication, compassion and courage’.
She said while honouring the recently fallen, they also pay tribute to the many in WFP and across the humanitarian community selflessly striving to meet the pressing needs of the vulnerable, hungry poor in hotspots around the world.
The Director pointed out that 80 percent of humanitarian work now in conflict-affected countries and regions is increasingly life-threatening for many colleagues.
The official called on humanitarians aid workers including WFP colleagues to be fearless as feeding the hungry demands unlimited courage and boundless commitment in the front line.
