CPA PARTNERS DISCUSS CITIZENSHIP AFTER REFERENDUM

The partners to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement CPA continue post referendum talks on citizenship, nationality and residency by listening to the opinions of several experts on the matter.The SPLM Secretary General, Pagan Amum, said northerners living in Southern Sudan should continue their normal life weather the Southerners opt for unity or separation and the same should apply to Southerners in the north, ISRIA website reported.

In a press release following the meetings, Mr. Amum expressed optimism in reaching understandings on these issues, clarifying that the negotiations are conducted in a positive spirit.

Earlier, Mr. Amum confirmed the European Union’s promise to accept and respect the referendum results and pledge to provide some money to the Referendum Commission.

In a related development, the United States have urged the National Referendum Commission to speed up its work, expressing readiness to provide necessary assistance.
