Western Bahr El Ghazal State’s Wau Annet Station drivers are on strike demanding to increase transport ticket from 150 South Sudanese Pounds to 200 Pounds to cope with fuel scarcity.
Driver Garang Deng says fuel shortage and bad roads force them to demand the rise in transport fare, Voice of Hope reported.
Western Bahr El Ghazal State Transport Union Chairman Hawat Hassan Acuil says the union is consulting Wau Municipality to avail reserved fuel for drivers to save travelers from paying exorbitant charges.
Stranded travelers with piling up luggage at Wau Annet Station including Bakhita Angelo express frustration over the strike, saying she has been waiting day long without any sight of a vehicle appearing.
It remains unclear when the public transport drivers in Wau will call off the strike.
