On July 19 2010 over forty SPLM-DC members withdrew their loyalty and joined SPLM for political reasons.

Dr. Ann Itto, SPLM Deputy Secretary General for the Southern Sector, hailed the new members. Among them, former SPLM-DC Secretary for Cultural Affairs, Dominic Funda, who told the press that their defection was based on SPLM-DC’s failure to adhere to binding principles within the party.

Charles Barnaba Kisanga, preceding SPLM ÐDC deputy chairman, said that bad leadership by the party chairman urged him to call on his colleagues to withdraw.
He urged Southern Sudanese to unite in great support for the mother party, SPLM, to achieve their objectives.

The defectors were given the SPLM constitution, the resolution of the second convention, star rings and badges as a sign of welcome to the party.
