The state SPLM Secretary General, Celesio Ohisa, revealed that the State Referendum Committee, formed last month, has constituted similar bodies in the counties. The process adheres to the Comprehensive Peace Agreement CPA, which tasks the Government of South Sudan (GoSS) and SPLM with the responsibility of sensitizing the people on the referendum.
He added that a team of party officials from Juba are visiting the state to hold a series of meetings with various sectors involved in the voters’ awareness on the referendum, and explained that civil society, faith based organizations and other non-governmental organizations will be involved as partners to create awareness on the referendum.
Eastern Equatoria State Governor, Louis Lobong Lojore, recently appointed a Referendum Committee headed by the party vice chairperson, Felix Okanye.
The State Commitee will also form Payam and Boma committees.
