As fistula campaign begins on Thursday in Wau Teaching Hospital, hundreds midwifery and nursing students from across Wau are being prepared on physical and psychological management of fistula patients before and after operations.

Campaign focal person working with the IMC at Wau Teaching Hospital Patricia Asikiwe Fistula says the exercise is critically important for the students to enrich their career and be prepared to prevent and handle similar complications, Radio Voice of Hope reported.

She believes the experience the students get from the campaign would have a positive impact on their profession.

Many students say the encounter with the fistula patients is one of the most difficult works they ever got.

Forty-three patients are already on the operation row and health authorities say they could still admit more to meet the initial 150 target to restore dignity of women and young girls who suffered stigma and isolation for years.
