The Arab Satellite Communication Organization or Arabsat has removed Radio Dabanga station from its satellite upon a request from Sudanese government.

Radio Dabanga is a shortwave radio station in Darfur area of Western Sudan based in the Netherlands broadcasting in Arabic and local languages since December 1, 2008, Radio Voice of Peace reported.

It was the first media outlet to report accusations last November that Sudanese soldiers raped some 200 women and girls in Tabit, a village 45km South-West of North Darfur capital El-Fasher.

The Arab Satellite Communication Organization Broadcast Services Product Marketing Manager Mohamed Karim Mahmoud says the decision to remove the radio station was based on a formal complaint he received on May 24th 2015 from the Sudanese Ministry of Information.

The station is considered to be hostile to the Sudanese government.

Radio Dabanga can still be followed in Sudan on Nilesat 7 degrees frequency 12399.
