United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMISS has found evidence of widespread human rights abuses allegedly committed by SPLA and associated forces during April 2015 escalation of fighting in Unity State.
UNMISS says in a statement that the scope of cruelty characterized by abduction, rape of women, girls and looting plus burning of civilians alive in their dwellings indicate that the depth of hostility exceeds political differences.
The Mission describes the new brutality and intensity as ‘the most disturbing’.
UNMISS says SPLA denied access to its human rights officers intending to visit the sites of the alleged atrocities for verification.
