NGOs LAUNCH FOOD AND LIVELIHOOD PROJECT IN TORIT

A consortium of Non-Governmental Organizations launched a food security and livelihood project in Eastern Equatoria state yesterday at the Catholic Diocese of Torit Bishop’s residence.
The NGOs include the Catholic Diocese of Torit, Caritas-Luxemburg and Netherlands Development Organization (SNV).

Talking to Radio Emmanuel, the project manager, Justin Amos Miteng said the project aims at building Capacity for long term food security in Eastern Equatoria state.

Mr. Miteng said that the project will operate in five Payams of Ikwoto County and one Payam in Budi County.

He added that the NGO consortium works in close collaboration with the line ministries at the state and County levels.

The project manager explained that improved agricultural production through provision of planting materials, capacity building of farmers and government staffs are some of the activities to be implemented.

He stressed that other activities like the establishment of community based seed multiplication, tree nurseries, agricultural training centers and promotion of community based nutrition education are part of the project.
