Western Bahr El Ghazal State Governorship and the State Legislative Assembly have certified their tenure extension for three years, ending on July 9, 2018.
Governor Rizik Zachariah Hassan says the tenure extension is a recommendation from the Council of States based in Juba and that anything approved by the legislature becomes constitutional and binding, Voice of Hope reported.
He observes that the term amendment is liable to change should the national government under President Salva Kiir sign peace deal with SPLM/A in Opposition chief, formerly Vice President Dr Riek Machar.
Western Bahr El Ghazal State Legislative Assembly Speaker Mario Nyibong says the tenure amendment legitimizes the gubernatorial rule and the legislature without which they are expected to quit on July 9, 2015.
Western Bahr El-Ghazal State civil societies, political parties and chiefs earlier on opposed the tenure amendment warning that it was likely to create chaos.
