Community Empowerment for Progress Organization or CEPO has criticized Intergovernmental Authority on Development or IGAD South Sudan power sharing proposal giving government 53 percent and SPLM/A in Opposition, former political detainees and other parties 47 percent as not empowering the civil population to influence political developments.

CEPO Executive Director Edmund Yakani observes that the mediation framework should focus on persuading the warring parties to reach a comprehensive peace agreement that empowers ordinary citizens to decide, Radio Bakhita reported.

He cautions IGAD against squaring the peace settlement on power sharing among political power lovers at the expense of the ordinary suffering citizens.

Director Yakani says power sharing approach in conflict resolution across Africa is proven to be short lived.

The civil society activist suggests that IGAD should open space for holistic negotiation approach for peace that empowers the civil population as signatories accountable to than the warring parties.
