The Central Bank is earmarked to introduce coins’ currency into circulation on independence anniversary on July 9, 2015.
National Cabinet Affairs’ Minister Martin Elia Lomur√∂ tells journalists in Juba that the Council of Ministers on Friday after thorough deliberations on Finance Minister Deng Athorbei’s and Central Bank Governor Korneilio Koriom Mayik’s presentation approved the issuance of 50, 20 and ten coins to address inflation and currency notes’ vulnerability.
He explains that the coins’ minting only awaits revision of the symbolic logo of Upper Nile region as the cabinet has already endorsed Equatoria and Bahr El Ghazal regional logos.
Dr Lomur√∂ says the Council of Ministers chaired by President Salva Kiir Mayardit has adopted recommendations on economic policies and the newly reviewed taxation law increasing tax base on non-oil revenues to boost the country’s economy for development.
The Cabinet Affairs’ Minister tells the press that there is ongoing fighting between Government and SPLM/A in Opposition forces in Panakoch area of the Upper Nile region and that the cabinet has concluded that there is a serious emerging rebellion in Western Equatoria State, deserving attention.
Dr Lomurö says the Opposition forces attacked Government positions on Friday morning, resulting into military engagements.
