World Council of Churches or WCC Secretary-General joins South Sudan Council of Churches’ call for warring parties to stop exacerbating war.

The WCC statement follows South Sudan Council of Churches voice pledging to take more proactive steps to achieve peace and reconciliation for the people of South Sudan.

Reverend Olav Fykse Tveit in a statement on Wednesday, underlines building South Sudan by peaceful and political means.

He comments South Sudan church leaders for playing a significant role in trying to bring peace to the country as representatives of people and the civil society organizations that speak the truth and people’s will for a real and just peace.

Reverend Fykse recalls that in April this year, WCC and South Sudan Council of Churches gathered in Addis Ababa, 20 church leaders and representatives from South Sudan and Ethiopia reflected on the tragic situation of conflict, the recent collapse of peace talks and fresh way forward.
