The International Committee of the Red Cross or ICRC re-started its operations in Leer town of Unity State, confirming that people started returning slowly despite the serious situation with little or no food and in need of advanced medical care.

ICRC official in charge Daniel Littlejohn-Carrillo in a statement recalls that many livelihoods were destroyed and several houses burnt to the ground, four vehicles and all the furniture in the ICRC compound were looted during recent fighting.

He reports that there are several casualties and the need for water, food, other forms of health care and shelter are dire, expecting them to grow substantially fairly quickly in the village.

One of the conflict victim a 23-year-old John Jal Riak grieves that mosquitoes were the biggest problem and that people searched for water lilies and coconuts to eat, calling for humanitarian aid for the community.

The ICRC plans to fly food and other supplies to Leer on Tuesday to roughly benefit six thousand people.
