Human rights violations in Upper Nile State is troubling Heads of International Missions including European Union Delegation, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, Norway, Switzerland and United States of America, forcing them to leave extremely volatile areas.

The heads of Missions in a statement on Friday express deeply concerned about the spread of violence in Unity and Upper Nile States which they say constitute blatant violations of the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement the Government and the SPLM/A in Opposition signed.

They strongly urge the warring parties to immediately end the fighting and killings and stop the terrible humanitarian consequences.

The Heads of Missions are especially disturbed by reports about gross human rights violations, often targeting children and women, terming the situation as unacceptable.

Military activities during the recent weeks in the two states forced up to 100 thousand people to flee their homes, leaving 650 thousand without life-saving aid at the onset of the rainy season.
