Ikwoto Commissioner on Friday after United Nations Mission in South Sudan or UNMIS handed over a newly constructed school block to the county authority, appeals to the state government to increase teachers’ salaries to enable them support their families.

Peter Lokeng says some teachers shifted to other departments like police due to over staying for several years at the same grade with little pay, Radio Emmanuel reported.

He also calls on the state government to reinstate Ikwoto Teachers’ Training College to produce more teachers to boost education in the state.

Commissioner Lokeng notes that as parents get interest in sending their children to school, the institutions are likely to close due to lack of qualified personnel.

He notes that training teachers in the country benefits citizens more than hiring personnel from other counties.
