About 700 nurses, midwives and citizens on Tuesday gathered at Juba Teaching Hospital to commemorate International Midwifery Day under the theme ‘Nurses as a force for change, care effective, cost effective’.

Central Equatoria Health Minister Felix Lodu Johnson comments nurses and midwives for their continued support as second mothers in the state, Radio Bakhita reported.

He appeals to citizens and the government to respect nurses and midwives because they play an important role in communities throughout their life time.

Minister Lodu advices nurses and midwives to go to hard to reach areas in order to offer services to citizens who cannot access health facilities in Juba.

He suggests that the same occasion should take place in other states instead of Central Equatoria every year.
