The Catholic Church in South Sudan on Sunday joins the globe to celebrate the World Social Communications Day under the theme: “Communicating the Family: A privileged place of encounter with the gift of love”.

The theme for 49th World Communications Day is on the view of the Extraordinary Synod on the Family and the Year of Consecrated Life.

The Day coinciding with the feast of the Ascension of the Lord is for Catholics to reflect on the necessity of fulfilling the command of Jesus to preach the Gospel to the whole world.

It is a key to communicate with “the whole world” through media and its demands for news relating to every aspect of the life of the Church and its people.

Pope Francis’ announced the World Social Communications Day this year on the feast of St Francis de Sales, patron of journalists on January 24.

He says ‘on this journey may we burn with the desire to be like Jesus and to bring his healing, acceptance, belief, love and His forgiveness to ourselves and to others through the Media’.

The Day was called for by the Second Vatican Council in1963.
