Teachers in Tonj East County disclose a plan to go for a sit-down strike due to low salaries and lack of promotion for many years.

Tonj East Information officer Juma Mayen says the teachers wanted to start the strike on Thursday, but the Acting Education Director Majok Kembany convinced them to complete first term exams, Radio Don Bosco reported.

He laments that the strike would negatively affect learners as teachers are the light for their future.

All the six Payams’ Education Supervisors discussed the issue with the Acting Education Director and are now waiting to see whether there would be promotion and increase of salaries or not.
