AU Humanitarian Assessment Mission visits South Sudan

African Union or AU Permanent Representative Sub-Committee on Refugees, Returnees and Internally Displaced Persons in Africa and the Department of Political Affairs, Humanitarian Affairs Division is undertaking a five-day humanitarian assessment mission in South Sudan.
 
The mission led by Ambassador and Permanent Representative of the Saharawi Arab Democratic Republic to the AU and Ethiopia Yahiaoui Lamine that started on Sunday and expected to end on Saturday, assesses the situation of Internally Displaced Persons and refugees in different camps in Juba and other parts of the country.
 
In a statement on Monday the mission aims at drawing appropriate recommendations to support the effective delivery of humanitarian assistance to the country by AU and encourage other African states to offer much needed support to South Sudanese.
 
The mission to South Sudan is part of the work programme of the Permanent Representative Sub-Committee on Refugees, Returnees and Displaced Persons.
 
The delegation started meeting officials in national government ministries, UN agencies, international and national non-governmental organizations operating in the country particularly with the affected communities.
