Torit residents on Saturday griped in sorrow after a grenade blast killed two girls on spot, wounding 28 others at Hai Matar of Torit town in Eastern Equatoria State.

Four of the wounded victims later died at Torit Referral Hospital and six others were evacuated in UN Helicopter to Juba, Radio Emmanuel reported.

Torit County Commissioner German Charles Ojok told Radio Emmanuel at Torit Civil Hospital that unknown person detonated the grenade at a group of young people who organized a dance, noting that the blast tainted the relative peace in the state.

He recounts a recent spate of violence cases in Torit that include killing of a coach, a woman while another battered.

The Commissioner calls for peace to prevail in the county, state and the entire nation.

State Information Minister Mark Akio in a press briefing says the government grieves the unfortunate incidence and condemns the act, committing to investigate the cause and motive of the blast.
