Lakes State Education Ministry on Friday launched ‘Back to Learning Campaign’ targeting about 30 thousand children in conflict affected counties.

Education Minister Dut Makoi Kuok urges education stakeholders especially parents to rally behind the campaign to allow children pursue education amidst conflicts, Good News Radio reported.

The Education Minister unexpectedly defends the presence of armed forces in some schools arguing that their presence was not forceful ‘occupation’, but on request on security reasons.

Minister Makoi urges education partners to provide scholastic materials necessary for the success of the campaign.

He discloses that schools including Malualbab and Deng Nhial in Rumbek Central County applied for provision of security personnel to protect them, resulting in the military presence.

The ‘Back to Learning Campaign’ in Lakes State is expected to run for eight months from April 17th to December 31st.
